2010 Office Management & Technology (OMT) students at Cape Peninsula University of Technology far exceeded the totals of previous years in their annual fundraising Entrepeneurial Market Day beating last year’s R21 000 by a huge margin!
The groups were extremely creative and innovative with their products and could integrate all of their newly acquired skills inlcuding communication ,computing ,negotiation ,time management, team work and conflict resolution.
The OMT National Diploma and BTech degree equips students with skills in management, administration and technology which are in huge demand in the business environment.
Entrepreneurship is one of the units covered in Business Administration for all first year students. In 2006, 2007 and 2009, The Red Cross Children’s Trust was the beneficiary and again in 2010. In 2008, Nazareth House was the beneficiary.
The students managed to sell all of their products, and any left over ingredients were donated to the Haven Night Shelter in Woodstock. The students were extremely happy that they were able to assist The Trust with much needed funding.
Acting OMT Head of Department, Mandie Richards congratulated first year students, lecturers and supporters who helped make the 2010 Entrepreneurial Fundraising Day were a resounding success!
The three winning groups were:
1. Cape Town group ‘Diversity’, overall winner, raised the most money around R7000.
2. ‘Funky Charities’ (Wellington) & ‘Sweet Temptations’ (Cape Town) for marketing
Richards also said she is very proud to be part of the OMT Team as they constantly strive to empower students holistically in their overall development, in line with the institutions mission and vision.
