Engen set themselves a target of raising R1 million by 2010 in aid of the Burns Unit. On Thursday, 9 December 2010 Engen hosted their inaugural Engen Charity Golf Challenge at the King David Golf Course. This event was in aid of the Hospital and was aimed at raising the remaining funds needed to reach the R1 million target.
During the past 5 years Engen has committed its support towards the patients treated in Specialist Burns Unit at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital through various sponsorship initiatives such as the Engen Xtreme Motorsport, Dynamic Cycling programme and the Santos Goals for Charity.
Mr Natie Maphanga, Engen Corporate Affairs General Manager, proudly announced at the prize giving that Engen had not only reached their target but exceeded it by handing over a cheque for R306 000.00 pushing the total donations to over the million mark.
Engen Group Sponsorship Manager, Brad Bergh has this to say: ‘The association with the Burns Unit at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital has been a long and proud one for Engen Petroleum and we are again extremely pleased to be able to support this much needed facility in the Western Cape through a host of fundraising initiatives. Engen’s Charity Golf Challenge will be a fitting finale to our “R 1 million by 2010” sponsorship programme and we take this opportunity to thank business in Cape Town and the broader Engen family for all their support in making this inaugural event such a success. We look forward to the Charity Golf Challenge becoming a respected fundraising event on the local golfing calendar in years to come.’
‘We invite all in business to join hands in supporting this worthy cause and help the Burns Unit to continue providing cutting edge medical care for those young lives in such desperate need,’ says Bergh.
