The Children’s Hospital Trust secured the services of professional window washing companies, Waterfront Window Cleaners and ProClean Services. They entertained children in superhero costumes while doing the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital a great service at no cost. This was all in the name of doing good in honour of Mandela Day and resulted in beautifully cleaned windows at the Hospital.
The Children’s Hospital Trust has also partnered with the Friends of the Children’s Hospital Association (FOCHA) to provide opportunities for the public to get involved and make a meaningful impact for their 67 minutes of good on Mandela Day. Volunteers who have already committed to volunteering have a wide selection of tasks awaiting them, from making sandwiches for parents of patients for lunch, packing food parcels and toiletry packs for the discharged patients on their way home, to bringing prepared hot meals for those who have spent long hours in waiting. Many volunteers spent their time interacting with the little patients who are confined to their hospital beds and look forward to having visitors reading and entertaining them.
One such group that volunteered at the Hospital was the children from Kids in Philanthropy. This organisation teaches kids about giving and connecting with other kids, as part of a larger community. More than 30 children got together to make sandwiches and put together 50 dinner packs for parents and children waiting at the hospital in the emergency room.
