Professor Jan Wiggelinkhuizen and his wife Dermine Maytham are retiring from the Renal Clinic at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital at the end of this month.
Jan, who is originally from Holland started at the Hospital in 1969 and his wife Dermine, who is from Zimbabwe, joined him in 1970. They were responsible for setting up the Renal unit at the Hospital which has grown in leaps and bounds over the past 40 years. After his official retirement from the Renal Unit some 16 or so years ago they both have continued to be very involved with the Hospital and do 2 renal clinics a week.
There is almost 90 years of dedicated time between the two of them!
Their daughter Madeline Wiggelinkhuizen continues to work in the Hospital’s Medical Out Patients Department and has done so for over 25 years.
The Children’s Hospital Trust wishes Prof Jan Wiggelinkhuizen and his wife Dermine Maytham a happy and healthy retirement.
