South Africa’s leading petroleum brand, Engen Petroleum recently visited the specialist Burns Unit at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in celebration of the Children’s Hospital Trust’s 19th birthday.
Joining in on the celebrations were some of the Engen Santos team members Pa Dembo Touray, Lee Langeveldt, Pere Ariweryai, Ricardo Skippers, Nasief Morris, Tyren Arendse, Suhayl Allie, Vuyisile Wana, Peter ‘Touch’ Mabaso and Jonathan Armogram.
Engen representative and Group Sponsorship Manager Brad Bergh, has reaffirmed Engen’s support of the Burn’s Unit, pledging continued support for 2013 through fundraising initiatives across the Brand’s sports sponsorship platforms namely Soccer, Motorsport and Cycling.
To celebrate the Trust’s 19 years of dedication in support of paediatric healthcare, Engen Santos and the Hospital’s staff enjoyed birthday cake and handed over educational toys to the children in the ward. Visiting parents also received a food hamper from the People’s team to enjoy, as they partook in the festivities of the day.
The Children’s Hospital Trust was established in 1994 to fundraise for the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and in 2011 expanded its reach to fundraise for paediatric healthcare in the Western Cape. Since 1994, The Trust has proudly assisted the Hospital to upgrade its buildings and equipment and to develop its professional staff.
The Trust has proudly guaranteed its benefactors that every cent they give goes directly to the Hospital, not a single cent is spent on administration costs. All funds raised through the Engen sports platforms go directly to Rehabilitation Programmes within the Burns Unit at the Hospital. The facility is the only specialised paediatric burns unit in Africa.
Engen Santos team captain Tyren Arendse said “Going to the Red Cross War Memorial Hospital and visiting The Children’s Trust is something that Santos always looks forward to. For more than 19 years The Children’s Trust has done a fantastic job at putting a smile on children’s faces. Through supporting The Trust, we know that the Red Cross War Memorial Hospital will continue to help many children.’’
As part of the Petroleum Brand’s Soccer sponsorship initiatives, Engen donates R 2 500 for every goal scored by Engen Santos FC at their home games. To date, the Club has scored 16 goals with funds raised thus far totalling R 40 000.
Engen Group Sponsorship Manager, Brad Bergh said: “Engen has a distinguished history of sponsorship in sport, dating back over two decades and are proud to have aligned the Brand’s sponsorship programmes since 2004 as fundraising vehicles in support of The Children’s Hospital Trust. We join hands in celebrating the wonderful work done by The Trust over the past 19 years in support of the crucial service the Red Cross War Memorial Hospital provides to distressed young lives”.
