Focal Medical Supplies, a medical supply company based in Pinelands, donated an OXYMAG Transport and Emergency Ventilator to the Emergency Unit at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. This transport ventilator is valued at R 216 600.00 and includes a 3 year maintenance contract.
“In association with our suppliers, Magnamed, we at Focal Medical Supplies found ourselves in the fortunate position to be able to donate an Oxymag to a charity of our choice. Being a family orientated company, we could not think of a better establishment than the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital to receive the donation. We knew that the device would be beneficial to the Hospital, as it can be used to help any young patients who would need ventilation.” – Focal Medical Supplies.
The transport ventilator ventilates patients of all ages with respiratory insufficiency. The Transport Ventilator is used for short term ventilation when transporting a patient from an emergency site to an Intensive Care Unit or wherever the patient needs to be delivered to. “The patient is unable to breathe normally during this time and therefore needs respiratory support,” says Dr Ralph Diedericks of the Emergency Medical Unit at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
The transplant ventilator’s function is to inflate the lungs for respiration by artificial means. The transport ventilator can be used to ventilate patients in an emergency situation, primary assistance, or when rescued and requires transportation to receive medical assistance. It has a neonate and infant flow-sensor making it ideal for the young patients of the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
“Before receiving this device, doctors used an inefficient transport ventilator that was not suitable for small infants in which case the patient would be manually ventilated with an Ambu bag by an accompanying doctor for the duration of the journey or procedure until they reach ICU or the Medical Emergency room.”
A big THANK YOU to Focal Medical Supplies for their generosity and for choosing the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital as the recipient of this donation.
